September 2011 Newsletter

30 Sep

The above picture just makes me smile and I hope it does the same for you. A lot of times before entering a temple or such you have to follow a certain ‘dress-code’ to pay respect. Well, here I am breaking all of the rules! Jared took this photo of me when he and Joe were in town visiting, they actually had the idea but I played along! We thought it was funny how the women in the inappropriate clothes all look so ‘sexy!’ But don’t worry, I covered up with a sweater soon enough!

Enjoy the update and overview of September 2011, and remember that you can e-mail me on my “connect” page to receive my newsletter every month (since sometimes I don’t upload it to my blog!) Click on the link to see the PDF version though: Newsletter September 2011

E-mail message:

Dear Friends and Family!
Sawadii ka! Sabai dii mai ka? Chan chop Ameriga ka! (hello! how are you? I like American!) Yes, my Thai skills are improving, I’m now up to studying twice a week and can carry on a limited conversation with my Thai friends–lucky most of them can speak English so I constantly ask “array ka?” (What?) and they graciously translate into English. But I’m staying busy here in Thailand. I’m into week four of teaching my second term already and have some three incredible classes of 15 or more students (with many returning students from last term!) and four new students that I’m tutoring this term. I recently joined a soccer team and we played our first couple games yesterday. Our team name is “Brasil” that’s the Thai version of “Brazil” although I’m not sure they realize it’s spelled wrong.
As I enter month four of living in Thailand I would ask that you continue to pray for safety for myself and the people of Thailand. Due to all the rain, there has been a lot of flooding around the country, you may have heard of some of it if you’ve been tracking the news here in Thailand. Bangkok hasn’t been too badly affected, but I’ve seen a lot of devastation in surrounding provinces. In addition, the political groups in Bangkok are resettling with many decisions lately and no one can ever be really sure of where or how things stand. Please pray for safety for myself and all of the foreigners here in Thailand as well as all the people of Thailand, that things would be settled peacefully, and that any major changes would not affect the openness of the country to the sharing of religion. I continue to think about my friends and family back home, but as always am amazed by the work that God is doing here. For more regular updates you can follow my blog at www.roselovesthailand.wordpress.com. I have also added a link on the right hand side of the front page where you can easy subscribe to my weekly updates! But otherwise, enjoy the monthly newsletter attachment!
Kor-hai Prajaow koom-klong khoon ka! (God bless you!)
